Delaware Will Become The First State Of The Mississippi That Will Allow Sports Betting

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

The Delaware legislators in the House had passed a sports betting bill has been augmented by reports that the Senate has also approved the bill by 17 votes to 2.
The first attempt to get the bill through the House has failed but the senate submitted a reworked version which passed by a 30 to 4 margin and was approved much faster than the previous.

On Tuesday the Senate voted to suspend normal rules and allowed the bill to be debated in the full chamber. A short time later, the bill passed 17-2 with two abstentions.

Delaware will become the first state east of the Mississippi that will allow sports betting.
Markell said that sports betting will bring about 50 million dollars annually for Delaware, which will help with a project of 755 million dollars.

The bill allows betting on single games, but could be limited to wager bets by state Supreme Court, which asked Markell guidance to determine which is consistent with the best system of state Constitution.

The state’s three casinos will get less of a cut of non-racing revenue, but the addition of sports betting is predicted to more than offset the reduction. The state will get 45 percent of the revenue generated from sports and electronic gaming, reports Associated Press.

Land For Casino Gambling

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Secretive negotiations concerning the location of a riverboat gaming license have led to public speculation that a land-based casino may be coming to the shores of Lake Michigan. The mayor of Gary, Indiana, indicated he would approve moving one of the Majestic Star casino licenses elsewhere in the state, if the remaining gambling license were allowed to move off the water inland.

Presently, Indiana law requires gaming operations be set up on riverboats. But, even though the current legislative session ends at the end of the month, Clay and others are apparently convinced changes can be enacted quickly, as behind-the-scene- discussions have been under way for some time.

State House Speaker Patrick Bauer spoke with skepticism regarding the plan, pointing out that gambling debates have historically progressed slowly through the lawmaking process.

But Clay and others say, if enough people benefit, the pressure to create the new casino may be enough to get the project done.

Malta’s Gaming Free-For-All Blessed

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Dozens of gaming halls have mushroomed around Malta since 2007 because the Lotteries and Gaming Authority has never issued a single licence to any of these operators.

In a free-for-all ostensibly blessed by government, various individuals have opened gaming shops everywhere because the LGA has not issued licences.

All that was required so far was a ‘change-of-use’ permit from the MEPA for the conversion of old shops into gaming parlours.

Ivan Camilleri, the director of Allied Games, said: “The end result has been an industry with no conditions imposed upon it”.
