Video Poker combines both Luck and skill. The luck part is the cards that are randomly dealt to the player. The skill part encompasses much more then simply knowing what to hold and what to fold. In this article we’ll discuss some of the things every video poker player should be doing, regardless of their game play strategy.

1. Only Play At Full Pay Machines

One of the smartest things any potential video poker player can do is to check the payout schedule before he or she starts playing. The payout schedule tells you how much you’ll be paid for each winning hand. In a Jacks or Better Video Poker game 9/6 is considered full pay. That simply means that 9 coins are paid out for a Full House and 6 coins are paid out for a Flush. Many casinos pay out less then 9/6, meaning that in the long run, you’ll simply win less money.

2. Always Play Max Coins

A Mistake many novice players make is to play fewer coins, thinking this will keep them in the game longer. The problem with that theory is many machines will give you proportionately more coins for hitting a Royal Flush with max coins then they will for hitting with less then the max. If you’re worried about going through your bankroll too quickly, play at a low coin size. Or, if you’re really not sure how to play, us a play for free version of the game until you’ve gotten your feet wet.

3. Plan How Much You’re Willing To Lose –And Stick To It.

There is a lot of luck involved in winning Video Poker. Unfortunately, too many players keep pumping coins into the machine, thinking their luck is bound to change. Successful players know that some days you have it and some you don’t. Before you start playing, have a set amount that you’re willing to lose, once that money is gone quit playing.

Three-card poker is a contemporary version of an old game, a game steeped in tradition and folklore. No one is 100% sure how the name “poker” evolved. The modern game of poker, the one we all know and love, is an American gambling game.

Today, almost two centuries later, poker remains the most popular card game in the world. But poker was never a game to rest on its laurels or to tread water, and so it continues to re-invent itself. After a century of 5-card stud and 7-card draw, Texas Hold’em appears to be the most popular poker variation for the time being. Three-card poker is a relative newcomer to the poker room. It is clearly derived from a British card game called Brag and therefore a brief history of that game is in order. A few hundred years ago, the British played a betting game called Primero, which used three cards. That game morphed into a game called Post-and-Pair.

As the betting rounds became more critical to the game, wild cards called Braggers were introduced and the name of the game changed yet again to Brag. Although there are references to Three-Card Poker dating back many decades, the current casino version of Three-Card Poker is said to have been invented by a British poker player named Derek Webb.

It was immediately obvious that the best game to base the new game on would be Brag, which is still played in Britain. Derek set to designing a game that had the attractive aspects of the original historical game with the multiple win opportunities and providing a choice of play modes, part of the appeal of craps and roulette. The game was initially shown to the casino industry as Casino Brag, and whilst this name was acceptable in the first European location, American operators wanted something different.

The game was initially shown to the casino industry as Casino Brag, and whilst this name was acceptable in the first European location, American operators wanted something different. Three Card Poker was the best choice as it describes exactly and simply what the game is. Players can quickly see how fair and easy to play Three Card Poker is, while also being very exciting and sociable.

Many people have asked me over the past few months how I went about learning the game and knowing what I do now. Well firstly, my method of learning the game wasn’t optimal and in fact…..one could actually consider it to be bad. I started my educational process at a time when the internet was in its infancy. This meant that I didn’t have access to the vast number of information outlets that people have today.

No coaching sites, no software to help me, no tutorial websites and no televised poker. I had one avenue and one avenue only and that was through poker books and on the job experience. But to highlight just how far poker players have come, the mediocre players of today would actually be better players than many of the professionals of ten years ago.

This is why online poker and poker in general has grown up. But in a way that is great because the interest in poker now is even greater than what it used to be. But the problem with attempting to learn poker from any source is that essentially you are trying to hit a moving target. Poker is forever evolving and this can be seen clearly in how the games are changing.

But the poker sites themselves of course are also responsible for contributing to the way that poker players are evolving. The introduction of multi-tabling, rakeback, SNG’s etc have all contributed to how online players have evolved. Even sign up bonuses have an effect on how people play as essentially people could easily be seduced into playing tighter poker simply because they want to clear the sign up bonus.

Poker tells exist both in the live games and in the online games. If you want to beef up your poker strategy, you will surely be interested in learning the common poker tells.

In a physical card room or in a casino, you will notice a poor player putting a hand over his mouth. Why? Because he is trying to conceal a smile (not a yawn). You can be sure that just as the sun rises in east, he is holding a strong hand. Another physical twitch is when the player reaches for a drink: his mouth is dry because he is nervous. A nervous player is relatively easy to lead.

If an opponent is trying to stare you down, he is trying to intimidate you. What is the reason behind this? Most likely, he is bluffing. If you have a strong hand, call. If you have a great hand and want more action, raise.

Observe the eyes of your opponent when the flop comes. If he takes a quick look at his chips, he probably has a strong hand. He is thinking of how much he will bet and win.

When you play online, will knowing poker tells be useful? Of course. Poker tells will differ slightly from player to player, but your online opponents are still humans. What you need to observe closely is the time or duration that an opponent spends during his turn or chance to bet.

In a limit game, when two flush or straight cards are out, and one of the players makes a quick call, this usually means a draw. On the flop, however, when one player makes an instantaneous raise, you can assume that he has a top pair.

When one of your opponents that you consider a poor player is taking time to think, he is actually debating whether to call or fold. This means that his hand is weak. Now if he took time (but not too long) to think and then raise, you can be sure that he is not bluffing. Poor players generally don’t bluff.

Knowledge of different poker playing styles should lead you to an adjustment of your poker game. Generally, some players you may want to attack right off the bat, others you may want to leave alone. Here are some of the different players‘ styles:

Loose
The loose player is someone you need to watch out for. They are characterized by their inexperience and usually play a lot of hands. Seemingly, the loose player is always in the thick of the poker game. Even with a poor hand, he will play until the very end of the game hoping to get some luck with his cards. If you play very aggressive with decent cards, exploiting a loose player shouldn’t be that difficult. Most likely, a loose player will likely reward your efforts.

Aggressive loose
An aggressive loose player raises the pot with nothing and bets no matter what card he has. He always calls bluff at every opportunity and is talkative and brimming with over-confidence. Don’t get egoistical around an aggressive-loose player. And don’t fall into the trap of playing his game and calling his bets just to expose the weakness of his game. When you have the cards to do so, attack them.

Tight
Compared to an aggressive player, a tight player folds at every hand and waits for pocket Aces. They can easily be lured by a bluff. However, when they see signs of intimidation, they fold. Be cautious, however, if they don’t fold.

Aggressive Tight
These type of players are extremely cocky. Until the aggressive tight player gets a good hand, he will opt to fold several times. When he plays his cards, he tends to play like a loose player. He has knowledge of how to get more money for his strong cards. Likewise, he knows how to take it easy and let the other players on the table do battle when his cards are not good enough. You might be in a bit of luck if you are successful in bluffing an aggressive-tight player into a hand. Don’t allow yourself to be played by an Aggressive Tight player.

In particular the Internet, poker games are played in a very dramatic scene and an amateur in the tables of poker games are a delight, because the professionals see them as opportunities to acquire the wealth. Now we just fast forward to the time when the internet revolution has begun. There! In the world of the Internet, some things come for free, and that is what offers free poker for ordinary people like us.

There are many reasons why people are free poker using as a springboard to play a much greater part of professional poker.

Running time for downloading the software are typically 15 minutes to 56 kbps. And the program occupies 6.2MB of storage space in the memory of a computer.

After learning the techniques that is boring yet vital, we now linger at the party side of free poker. There are many features included in the software free poker and once you acquire it, you will also be able to use these features. One of the features is that you can play in the tables public or private tables. For tables, we must first ask permission or a request to join the private table.

However this in my opinion should not be the sole basis of your decision on whether you should draw for another card.

You also have to decide on whether the hand that you are trying to hit will win you the pot or not.

How to calculate pot odds:
In this example, if the current pot contains $80, and the amount required at the next call is $20, the pot is laying you odds of $80 to $20 or 4 to 1.

As long as your odds of making the best hand are 4 to 1 or better than making the call is the right move. A hand that is 4 to 1 means that you will hit once in every 5 tries. You will hit the draw 20 percent of the time.

This next example takes into account calculating pot odds and outs.

Assume that your hole cards are a six and a seven (for this example suits do not matter) and the flop came down 8-9-3.

In order to complete your hand you need a 5 or 10. You have eight outs – 4-5’s and 4-10’s. Multiply your outs (8) by 4 and you get 32. You have a 32 percent chance of making your hand. If there was only one card left to draw you would multiply by two.

A 32 percent chance of making your hand means you have a 68 percent chance of NOT making your hand. This is roughly 2 to 1 that you won’t make the hand. So, as long as the pot contains $2 for every $1 that you have to call, it is worth going after your straight.

Doing these quick calculations and interpreting them can be very difficult and confusing for a beginner (and many advanced players as well!). But I would recommend that you at least be able to quickly calculate your outs to give you an idea of just how likely you are to make your hand.

Over the past couple of years, thousands of people have been trying to cash a quick buck off its popularity, and hundreds of web sites have suddenly popped up, but despite all of this the WSOP has been around when poker was considered serious card playing. It wasn’t a fad that was made to be televised into some sort of fashion. It was quality poker.

Back in the day, men smoked cigars and sipped whisky while eyeing up their opponents. It was a game made for men like Nicolas Dandolos, commonly referred to as Nick the Greek, and Benny Binion. These two were champion gamblers and poker players back during the 1940s. It was no wonder then when Nick the Greek approached Binion to set up a world class match. Nick challenged the supposed champion of all poker players, Johnny Moss.

There was one exception though, Binion made sure to attract as much attention to the event as possible by holding it in public. It was to be on public display and seen as a marathon. After five long months of discussion and compromises, all parties agreed to continue with the match. Thus, the World Series of Poker was born in 1949. It was a grueling event where the players only took breaks to catch up on sleep. Moss came out on top and reportedly took home around $2 million in cash, nearly an entire casino’s worth in 1949.

Nearly 21 years later, Binion decided to try his hand with the WSOP again. It was 1970, and this time he officially deemed it the WSOP. And once again, Johnny Moss did what he does best and walked away with the pot.

He continued the World Series of Poker yearly from then on. By 1982, there were 104 top poker players signed up for the WSOP. Rectangular poker tables are usually thirty inches high and forty to forty-two inches wide, though the lengths do vary from seventy-two inches to 110 inches.

Sometimes a dealer/player may have to sit in the middle of a rectangular poker table due to the large size of the table.

Today, the Internet has made it easy to design and acquire a poker table. Some manufactures also offer custom, folding poker tables, card tables, pedestal poker tables, three-in-one poker tables, Texas Hold’em poker tables, blackjack tables, poker tabletops, and craps tables, along with matching chairs, poker cards, and other supplies to suit the needs and tastes of prospective buyers.

Then there are some multipurpose poker tables that have an attractive wooden tabletop, which can be flipped to form a roulette table, a craps table, or a six-person blackjack table. The poker table also serves the purpose of a functional storage for storing the game pieces and poker chips.
