Sweden In Breach Of EC Law?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

The European Gaming and Betting Association is bolstering up their biting comments on the report issued by the Swedish Ministry of Finance over the gambling marketing in Sweden.

Sweden, it seems, has been in breach of EC law since 2006. From 2006 to January 2008, the European Commission has sent repeated notices regarding Sweden’s protectionist gaming legislature, which restricts cross-border poker services.

The EGBA claims the Nyren report is fundamentally flawed to begin with as it assumes Sweden is following the EC laws in the first place.

Sigrid Ligné, the EGBA Secretary General states said:  “none of the Nyren recommendations would help to ensure a level playing field for all European operators and meet the requirements of the EC Treaty. We urge the Commission to bring Sweden to the European Court of Justice.”

Denmark To Introduce Gambling Reforms?

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Denmark’s government announced that it would be deregulating the market and introducing sweeping changes.

Gambling operators would now be allowed to apply for licenses, advertise their products.

MD of Danske Spil, H.C. Madsensaid: “It will be nice to get some clarity on the issue after so many years of uncertainty,”, “We’ll also be able to offer casino gambling and poker now, which we couldn’t do before.”

It makes sense for Denmark to follow EU recommendations on unrestricted cross-market selling and the sweeping reforms will set a competitive market in a country known for its gaming tendancies.  Many online casino and poker operators will be looking to enter Denmark in a more open fashion.

Switzerland Want To Legalise Online Gambling?

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Switzerland begin implementing plans for the legalisation of online gambling by introducing a regulated framework to ensure betting sites are being operated securely and fairly.

Online gambling is still unregulated in many countries across the world, which opens the door for illegal betting sites to operate undetected.

Currently only Lotto games and sports betting products are regulated and can be played online in Switzerland, but the new changes to the law will ensure that casino clients, bingo operators and poker rooms will now also be allowed to legally operate.

The signs are encouraging for Swiss online gaming, some industry experts believe that the new legislation already needs to be changed as operators outside of Switzerland will not be able to process payments at Swiss banks.

Bwin Study Reports Gambling

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Bwin has reported that gambling addiction has decreased in the past two decades.

The study focussed on the relationship between increasingly accessible gambling and its impact on problem gambling.

The results of the study make by Dr. Shaffer clearly dispute the commonly accepted hypothesis that the greater accessibility of online gambling would lead to increased incidences of problem gambling and support the fact that gamblers these days are far less compulsive than in previous years.

Dr Shaffer said: “The very first thing that we learned,”,  “was that the vast majority, the overwhelming majority, of gamblers online gamble in a very moderate and mild way. Preventing people from gambling online is likely to be ineffective in reducing problem gambling  but rather, education, public awareness programs and truth in advertising regulations will be more successful in helping to keep gambling safer.”

It is likely that the results of the new survey will provide key evidence in the current debate over the legalisation of online gambling in the US.

Treat Problem Gambling

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

The state Assembly passed a new resolution , allowing a judge the option to sentence convicted criminals to treatment and supervision, if he determines compulsive gambling contributed to the offense. Judges would also have options regarding restitution, community service, and the chance to approve either confined or outpatient therapy.

The bill would address complaints by experts who say gambling disorders lie in the same category as substance abuse, and should be handled accordingly. Crimes such as embezzlement, fraud, and forgery often are the result of untreated addiction, and problem gambling is part of that.

MGM Mirage Casino

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Casino stocks fell Monday as investors dumped shares across all industries after a six-week rally while gambling investors continued wondering how casino companies would manage debt and large projects.

MGM Mirage, majority owned by billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian, on Friday covered its share and partner Dubai World’s half of a $70 million construction payment for the project.

Dubai World’s $35 million share was the second payment covered by MGM Mirage while the 50-50 partners hammer out a deal to assure the project is completed.

Dubai World expressed worries about MGM Mirage when it sued the Fortune 500 company last month and said the casino company’s statements about its financial health put CityCenter at risk.

Dubai World also alleged that MGM Mirage has mismanaged CityCenter, though MGM Mirage officials have said that Dubai World has been involved in CityCenter’s progress since the partnership started in August 2007.

Dubai World said it was particularly concerned about comments in MGM Mirage’s annual report warning that it could default on its debt and be forced to seek bankruptcy court protection.

The federal United Arab Emirates government quickly bought the first tranche of $10 billion.

Land For Casino Gambling

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Secretive negotiations concerning the location of a riverboat gaming license have led to public speculation that a land-based casino may be coming to the shores of Lake Michigan. The mayor of Gary, Indiana, indicated he would approve moving one of the Majestic Star casino licenses elsewhere in the state, if the remaining gambling license were allowed to move off the water inland.

Presently, Indiana law requires gaming operations be set up on riverboats. But, even though the current legislative session ends at the end of the month, Clay and others are apparently convinced changes can be enacted quickly, as behind-the-scene- discussions have been under way for some time.

State House Speaker Patrick Bauer spoke with skepticism regarding the plan, pointing out that gambling debates have historically progressed slowly through the lawmaking process.

But Clay and others say, if enough people benefit, the pressure to create the new casino may be enough to get the project done.

Casino Lisboa In Macau

Friday, April 17th, 2009

The Casino Lisboa has  been solely responsible for a large percentage of all of Macau’s casino revenues and has even out earned Las Vegas in casino revenue. It is the largest of all of Macau’s casinos.

The Casino Lisboa is open twenty-four hours a day and is located at 2-4 Avenida de Lisboa, Macau China. If roulette is your game, then the Casino Lisboa is the place for you.

The object of the game of Roulette is to choose which number will appear on the wheel. Combination bets of more than one number and or choose of color or even or odd are also allowed. Sounds simple, but it is not as easy as it may appear.

The European wheel consists of 37 slots, which are numbered from 0-36, and offers the house an edge of 2.63.

The Roulette wheel has two betting areas. The inside betting area consists of individual numbers on the layout and the outer betting area contain columns, red/black, odd/even and other groups of numbers. The inner betting area consists of 12 rows that form three vertical columns.

Roulette is played with chips, which must be purchased prior to sitting down at the table to play and are generally only good for that table and must be cashed before leaving the table and exchanged for regular casino chips.

Each table will have a maximum and minimum allowable bet. You are not allowed to combine your outside and inside bets in order to reach the table minimum.

There are those that claim they have the guaranteed system for winning at Roulette. The truth is this is a game of chance where the house always holds the edge and no system will ever alter that.
